Dr. Karsten McGowan

From a young age, Dr. Karsten McGowan was drawn to helping others—an inspiration that came from watching his father practice as a chiropractor. Seeing firsthand the positive impact chiropractic care had on patients, he knew early on that he wanted to follow a similar path in healthcare.

Dr. McGowan started his education at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, before going on to receive his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University. After completing his studies and passing national board licensing exams, he moved to Georgia with his wife Kate and their dog Teddy in 2017. Since then, he has proudly served the Gwinnett County community, providing patient-centered chiropractic care for over seven years before joining HM Chiropractic.

Dr. McGowan is committed to delivering individualized care tailored to each patient’s unique needs. He utilizes a variety of techniques including Diversified adjustments, Activator (instrument-assisted) methods, and the Thompson Drop Table technique. In addition to spinal and extremity adjustments, he incorporates muscle therapy such as manual massage, traction, and instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization. When appropriate, he also uses modalities like ultrasound therapy, electric muscle stimulation, and therapeutic exercises to support recovery and long-term wellness.

His approach to care is rooted in clinical experience, extensive continuing education, and a genuine passion for improving quality of life through natural, non-invasive treatments. Dr. McGowan’s goal is to help patients move better, feel better, and live healthier, more active lives.

Outside of the office, Dr. McGowan enjoys spending quality time with his wife, their son, and their dog. As a family, they love being outdoors—hiking, walking, playing golf, and exploring local parks. Dr. McGowan also enjoys playing ice hockey in Duluth and traveling whenever possible, whether visiting family across the country or discovering new cultures and cuisines abroad.
